Abrupt room temperature switching (T(c) = 295 K with a 5 K hysteresis) was achieved in a neutral Fe(II) complex based on a 2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)pyridine ligand. Structural characterization and spin crossover study (via SQUID magnetometry, photoexcitation and X-ray absorption spectroscopy) in the solid state are described.

Phosphines are fundamentally important to the fine chemicals, pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. Reported is the first example of alkene hydrophosphination using a designed iron pre-catalyst which yields the anti-Markovnikov products in high yield at room temperature. The phosphine products are excellent pro-ligands for Fe-catalyzed Negishi cross-coupling.

Multiferroic behaviour at room temperature is demonstrated in ε-Fe2 O3 . The simple composition of this new ferromagnetic ferroelectric oxide and the discovery of a robust path for its thin film growth by using suitable seed layers may boost the exploitation of ε-Fe2 O3 in novel devices.
